• Hatchet – Gary Paulsen

Brian would have died without the hatchet that his mother gave him. It was bought in a store, but I think this would be the exception to that rule. It saves his life numerous times.

Bud carries around a flyer for Herman E Calloway and the Dusky Devastators of the Depression. He thinks that this is his dad's band, and it is his most valuable possession.

It's about a girl living in East Berlin during the Berlin blockade, but basically an American pilot flies over E. Berlin and drops candy for the children. She never catches any, so she sends a letter to the pilot. He mails her a box of candy and includes the letter. This letter is a treasure she kept throughout her life.
